If disinfection is not carried out properly, what may survive?

Spores may survive

Disinfection reduces the microbial load on surfaces but does not guarantee complete sterility. Endospores are highly resistant to many disinfectants, so if the cleaning process is not thorough—whether due to improper concentration, insufficient contact time, inadequate pre-cleaning, or using an unsuitable product—these spores can remain viable. In tattoo and body piercing settings, tools and surfaces that contact skin or tissue must be properly cleaned and often sterilized or subjected to high-level disinfection appropriate for the item. If disinfection isn’t carried out correctly, spores may survive. The other statements aren’t correct because spores are not always killed, disinfection does not sterilize everything, and some microbes can remain after disinfection.

Spores are always killed

No microbes survive

Disinfection sterilizes everything
